The Education and Employment Project Hanley Road
The focus of this project is on providing a range of courses which will equip participants with skills which may lead either to employment or a course at college. The centre accepts both people with severe mental health problems and a percentage of people whose lives have been severely disrupted by mental health difficulties, but who are not in contact with services. Courses are provided regularly in IT, Admin and Reception skills and Catering and Personal Development as well as additional courses are run by staff and tutors from the local FE college according to demand.
A Café operates on the premises each day from 12:00 - 2:00pm
except Wednesday.
All courses are provided for both men and women.
I.T Empolyabilty

No previous experience required. Course content is both student and tutor lead covering more creative aspects of I.T . No certification is awarded for this course.
Healthy Eating on a budget
Facilitation City and Islington College Wednesdays 10 - 1 Kitchen/café
This course is for students who want to learn how to cook healthy meals working within a budget. Each session both a meat and vegetarian dish are produced. Students and staff will make a shopping list and buy the food from a local store, students being responsible for the money and budgeting. The meal is cooked under the supervision of the tutor. The students will be learning cooking techniques incorporating health and safety in the kitchen environment. Table will be set and the meal eaten. Kitchen is then cleaned. This course involves group cooking and eating. There is a cost of £1.50 per student per session. The course runs for 1 year. Students can join at the beginning of each term.
Care Field

10 week course
The course will give and discuss options for students wishing to find work in the care field. Visits to day centres, older peoples residential projects and N.H.S establishments are an integral part of the course. The course does not lead to a formal qualification but students will be encouraged to move onto an N.V.Q in Health and Social care. Students must join in the first two weeks of term. No previous experience is required.
Bike Maintenance and Repair

Mondays 2- 4 12 week course
No experience necessary. Each session will cover a particular part of bike repair; wheels, brakes, crank set E.C.T both theory and practical elements will be included supported by handouts. Some of the sessions will be bike rides where students can learn cycling skills and on the road repairs. If students own bikes it is recommended that they bring these in . We have access to a limited number of bikes for those who don’t own there own. On completion of the course a certificate from the E.E.P will be awarded
Bike Workshop

The workshop takes in bikes for repair . Students need to have completed the bike repair course to attend. The students will be responsible under supervision for taking in and repairing bikes to a good standard . This will include working with the public.

This Course is for FoundationTrust Residential
only, open to St Luke Woodside, Highview, Caledonian Road, Aberdeen Park, Malachiteand Hanley Gardens services. This is a general life skills course.

Narrow boat skills & Sailing
Facilitation Laburnham boat club
Thursdays 10 - 1
A course based at the Laburnham boat club on Regents canal. The course runs for 10 weeks. Students need to come in warm clothing as the course is all outside on the canal and narrow boat. Each week the students cover all aspects of narrow boat handling. In the ten weeks they will cover steering, opening and closing of the locks ,engine checks, and safety. This course is shared by another group from Hackney. On completion they are awarded a certificate from the boat club. Students will need to make there own way to Laburnham which is based at Kingsland High Road. Some transport may be available from 75 Hanley Road.
Gardening

Thursdays 11-1 10 week course
This course tutor comes from Sunnyside Gardens. Students do practical work on the gardens of the project and 75 Hanley Road. Basic gardening skills are taught with visits to Sunnyside Gardens to cover some aspects such as lawn cutting. More advanced courses can be accessed after the completion of the course.

A course for those people who have little or no maths skills. The course follows the B.B.C Skillwise course. We will be using the computer to support the teaching.

The Life Skills course is ideal for for people who may may simply need or want help for organizing various aspect of their life.
First step in Beauty
Facilitation City and Islington college
Thursdays 10 - 12pm
This course is run by the City and Islington College over 3 terms per year. Clients can join at the beginning of any term. The course has an in house qualification from the E.E.P. The course consists of modules covering the following; Healthy diet, biology of the skin and Skelton nail art, facials, massage and makeup. There will be visits out to fashion and eating outlets.
Reception and administration

Fridays 10:30-2-pm
This course runs for ten weeks clients should join within 2 weeks of start date. The course covers skills required to enable clients to work on a reception desk or basic office work. Areas covered ; use of switchboard, I.T introduction to Microsoft Word, making posters, office skills, room booking, photocopying, laminating, shredding, typing minutes. Setting up rooms for classes; tea, coffee, materials over head projector, flip charts. On completion clients will have the opportunity to apply to gain work experience work at the Education and Employment project reception desk. This is a paid position.
